Tok Lasam was regarded as the “founder” of Kampong Siglap, a prince that sailed to Singapore to escape the Dutch’s attack on his kingdom in Sulawesi Gowa or Sumatra Minangkabau (the Pagaruyung Kingdom). He eventually became the penghulu (chieftain) of Kampong Siglap and passed away towards the end of the 18th century. Please also see Tuah Bugis‘ comments below – his real name was Raja Suffian.
His wife’s name is believed to be Nai, and many of their descendants stayed on in Kampung Siglap.
Al-fatihah buat arwah moyang ku Tok lasam….
Adakah anda benar-benar cicit Tok Lasam?
(I am a beginner-learner of Bahasa Melayu. And I also wish to find out more about Tok Lasam and the pre-modern history of Siglap. Can I seek your advice?)
Is Tok Lasam related to Madam Hajijah?
I’m not sure, really. At least from what I have read online and in books, there’re no indications that Tok Lasam was related to Madam Hajijah.
Tok Lassam came from Pagaruyung with his 3 brothers. His real name is Raja Suffian
